Portraits of Amy

Amy and I had so much fun capturing her spirit during our Over 50 session, and she went home with quite a few. This is just a sampling.

Her story:

Hi, my name is Amy Connolly. I live in Staunton, Virginia, and I am 54. Currently, I am an independent travel advisor at AmyConnolly.intelliletravel.com (no WWW).

I am the second of five girls born to a Seamen and a Gypsy, traveling all over the US. It was the not so typical, typical '70s life.

At the age of 13 years I was no longer living with family. I was a ward of the state and then on my own. Like everyone's life, it has its good and bad. I moved out of foster care, graduated and had my first daughter all at the age of 18. My next daughter came at 20. I did what all single mothers do. I worked my butt off to make ends meet. Now I’m grandmother of three amazing individuals.

When people look back on their lives, I hope that we all have changes in values of our beliefs. It's all about learning and growing. Having fought for everything all my life, I have realized that temperance and compromise have more value in the world. When you learn to make the changes in your life is not always about you. For me, they came when I was given away, when I had my children, and the birth of my grandchildren. The biggest changes were from loss. The loss of my grandparents, parents, friends and sister all within 5 years. What do I like about myself and how I would like people to remember me is that I have a big heart. Bucket List is forever growing but parasailing is no longer on it and one piece of advice, I can choose only one?

Keep your eyes and ears open and only speak when you are standing for justice.

Now I have a life quote. Some will get it. Some will not.

“The hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave live.”

- Josh Whedon / spoken by Sarah Michelle Geller in as Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.
