Introducing Janis H. Fugel, ARM, AINS, AU, CPHRM—Director, Financial Risk Management, and participant in my first "Over 50 with Maggie" celebration:
Losing my husband to cancer in 2016 changed my life forever. He was my support system. I leaned on him for so many things. I had to learn to do things on my own. He was no longer there to ‘fix’ things for me and I had to learn to rely on myself.
I’ve always wanted to travel. Growing up, my family didn’t have the resources to travel. I’ve been on cruises by myself and I have a solo trip to Portugal planned. I have a job I enjoy that has a lot of responsibility. I’ve learned to rise to the challenge each day. I’m contemplating retirement now and don’t know how the lack of responsibility will sit with me.
Last year, I had to stand in for my manager to give a presentation to our Board of Directors. Normally that would have upped my anxiety level but I made sure I was prepared and knocked it out of the park. I was able to answer all questions that were asked without a moment’s hesitation.
I’m responsible and I get things done. On a personal level, I had to help both my ailing husband and my aging mother get the health services they needed. Fortunately I work in healthcare and knew the right people to ask. On a professional level, I know the “right” people to help me get the job done.
The one piece of advice I’d give my 20 something self is do not be afraid to speak out and stand up for yourself. It doesn’t matter if it’s a personal or professional situation. Do your homework first and get out there and shine.
My favorite quote is by Oscar Wilde, “Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” I’ve learned that I don’t need to be part of the pack or like everyone else. I’m me! I don’t care if that scares people off or turns people off (especially men!).
Women are multi-faceted, and I love helping them share images that show their authentic, beautiful, confident shine! How do you want to be photographed? Let's meet over coffee and talk about it. Contact me: text/call 434-226-0365 or email [email protected]... or schedule a Zoom meeting online here!
