Things I Watch Out For: Details

December 09, 2022  •  Leave a Comment

It's a great picture! Your smile is beaming, with just the right glint of a smile in your eyes. Your outfit looks great on you. You've nailed the pose! Yes - you love this photograph! Let's print!

Well, wait a minute...

   "Can you fix that?"

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference, so when we create your photographs together, I’ll watch out for all those little things during our session. No one wants to walk by their 20x30 wall portrait and see the missed detail.

  • Do you have hair out of place? I’ll ask to fix it for you… or ask you to.
  • Is there fur or fuzz? I’ll ask to remove it, use a lint roller on you… or ask you to.
  • Is a necklace clasp visible? I’ll ask to fix it for you… or ask you to.
  • Is there a ponytail holder / hair tie on your wrist? I’ll ask you to remove it, unless you really want to keep it on.
  • Is one of your rings twisted? I’ll ask you to straighten it.
  • Is your clothing not falling correctly? I’ll ask to fix it for you… or ask you to.
  • Is there too much shine on your face? I carry blotting tissues and powder, so I’ll ask to fix it for you… or ask you to… or adjust my lights accordingly.
  • Do you have glasses glare? I’ll fix that in posing or by adjusting my lights accordingly.

The devil is in the details, so as many of them as we can get right, the better. Your photographs are part of your legacy, and we want them to be as perfect as possible – especially if they are going to hang on your wall.

And no, I do not want to “fix it in Photoshop” after the fact. I might be able to. A professional retoucher may be able to. But I'd rather we get it right the right way.
