You may have noticed it elsewhere on my site. Last year, when I hit 55 on my age-ometer, I started thinking about how life is different now that I’m over 50 and an empty-nester. I’m different… and so many women of our certain age are in a time of our lives that is so unique from even a few years ago. And I wanted to celebrate that.
We are beautiful not in spite of our smile lines but because of them. We are strong not in spite of our body’s challenges with aging but because of them. We are experienced. In most cases, we’ve reached a new level of confidence, independence, and resilience because of our experiences.
Photographers around the world have done these special “50 Over 50” projects, so I looked into what they were doing and how. Some of them focus on business “boss babes” (not a fan of the term, but I like the concept). Some focus on boudoir (woo hoo!). Most go full glam – big hair, dramatic makeup, couture dress, dark and moody set – so you look like you stepped out of a page of Vogue magazine. This is where I started… but I really came back to my preference that you look like YOU. If you would like to go full glam, yes, let’s do that! What I’ve found is that most of my clients for this celebration prefer a more toned-down look, wearing a hairstyle and makeup that looks like them for a nice date night, perhaps, and wearing something that fits their natural style. No one has rented the flying dress… yet.
I expect that when my first "50 Over 50" collection is complete, it will be quite an eclectic book - as it should be! I’m not curating it to look slick; I’m showcasing the beauty in all of us. I'm allowing you to choose the facet you believe shows you off best to the world and sharing your one-of-a-kind story.
If you’re over 50, please check it out and get in touch soon. I want to celebrate you, too!
