Are you one of those women who don’t really like pictures of yourself, or you think photographs of you don’t quite look like the “you” you expect to see? There are reasons for that!
Selfie vs the MirrorYes, you DO look different in photographs!
First, the only time you see your face, it’s a reflection… so it’s backwards of what the rest of us see. When you see an actual photograph, the image seems off because no one’s face is perfectly symmetrical, and those asymmetries can seem odd when the picture is flipped around. Because you’ve only seen your face in reverse, every day, that’s the face you've come to know and love.
You also may be looking at a still photo and focusing in on the details, looking for the blemishes, scars, moles, freckles, pores… things you might not generally seek out when walking by a mirror, and things your friends and family ignore.
Lens choice makes a difference, too. I cannot tell you how much I dislike the “selfie” mode on my phone. That front-facing camera is a wide angle, and combined with how close I have to be to it with my short arms, it makes my nose look huge!

The good news is that professional portrait sessions can help you get used to seeing yourself in your best light as others see you… and give you a bank of images to share with friends and family. You might even be so happy with them that you might even want to hang one on the wall… or create a collection of pix in a folio box or album.
