Candid Moments

I like so many things about photographing weddings. One of those is the reception, once everyone is relaxing and having fun… in between the traditional first dances, bouquet toss, and other activities. Of course, I’ll capture those photographs, and family photos, and wedding party pictures, and all the things. I’ll even play photobooth for a little while, as everyone wants pix with the wedding couple… but only for a little while. Then I will steal you away for a mini couple’s session to give you a chance to just be together for a moment, take a breather from the attention, and perhaps have a moment to eat.

Back to what I like: when folks start visiting with each other at the reception, I get to go into ninja mode! I’m looking for the candid moments, where two brothers are laughing at a shared memory, the bride’s grandmother is getting a kiss from her great-granddaughter, or the groom’s parents are leaning their heads together and smiling wistfully. I’m also secretly “following” the newly married couple as they interact with each other and their guests, so glad that Aunt Janie and Uncle Bill could make it from three states away. I’m watching the flower girl and the ring bearer as they run around in circles, hyped up on all the attention and a second piece of cake… and again once they’ve crashed and landed in the corner chair. I’m grabbing a shot of the cell phone screen of a guest who is taking pix of the bridesmaids for them to post on social media.

These candid moments help tell your story. These are the people you know and love, and who know and love you. They are the ones who shaped who you are, and I want to make sure they are all included in your wedding album. And I want to show who you are as a couple, and individuals, in this new stage of your relationship.

Yes, I want to photograph epic sunset pix with you… but what I really want to capture is love.
