As part of the planning process for your photoshoot, regardless of type, I always ask, “how do you want to be photographed?” You may have seen that question before….
Generally, especially for basic business/headshot sessions, we’ll talk about some concepts, discuss ideas you might want to try, and I’ll share some tips on how to prepare. There’s a plan, but it’s fairly loose.
With a full branding shoot, there’s more direction, but I’ve sometimes felt like something was missing. Planning has centered on where and how you’ll use your images: social media profile crops and content pillars, potential marketing needs, upcoming promotions, blog images, etc. We talk about brand colors, props, locations… and while these things are all important, we haven’t necessarily explored your brand identity in full.
I have always asked a couple of key questions that help lead to understanding your brand’s foundational level, but in the past I’ve let it slide if you haven’t done that examination or just opted to skip that part. What that gets us, however, are photos that are “fine” – good for tactics more than strategy. And at the end of the day, a professional branding shoot saves you time, but without deeply knowing your brand, it can’t necessarily help you grow your business.

Our planning sessions now involve more homework… for both of us.
You no longer get to skip those crucial questions from my discovery questionnaire (but don’t worry; I’m here to help you walk through them to articulate the answers, if you want/need assistance).
I will then take your responses to create an inspiration board for our session and share it with you. While this has always been an option, no one has taken me up on it. It’s no longer optional.
We’ll discuss what I’ve put together, refine it to make sure it’s the perfect fit for you and your brand, develop a more-complete shoot plan from there, and bring it to life.
By being more strategic in our planning together, you can be confident that your imagery will help tell your brand story in a cohesive way that connects with your ideal audience.
I’m so excited for where this can take you!
