I’m a huge fan of fresh, natural makeup looks, and unless we’re doing a concept shoot, we start off Signature Portrait Sessions with our makeup artist creating a “bridal” look for you, even though you may not be a bride.

The Central Virginia Bridal Guide – as most bridal magazines do – offers a column on bridal makeup trends, so I like to pick up each issue. Checking in like this ensures I’m up to date on the industry and will have the jargon to speak with the artist about what we are creating with your look.

Some things change, while some are classic: 

• Eyebrows, for instance, are becoming refreshingly more natural again – not overly thinned, but not big and bushy. Style and groom them, as they are framing your eyes (those most important windows to the soul), but keep it simple.
• Eye makeup can be built from natural to smoky – and I love that winged eyeliner is a classic look that is still en vogue. False eyelashes are also still a great way to enhance your eyes, especially if you are “sticking” with “natural” styles. They add such drama!
• As for lip color, remember that even neutral colors can enhance your look, but there’s nothing like a bold lip… especially if you go red! 

Our makeup artist will create a clean-looking foundation for your skin that may seem heavy to you. As much as a satin glow may look really good in person, it doesn’t always work well in camera, as some makeup reflects light poorly. An expert will know exactly what formulas enhance you best.
