Some of the most fun sessions are the iconic Pin-Up shoots! Coming into popularity in the early 20th Century (burlesque performers are believed to have started the trend), these “taboo” images of sex symbols were ripped from magazines or calendars and literally pinned to the wall (rather than more formally framed). They were not necessarily sexual in nature, but did display body positivity with a light touch.
The look is classic and glamourous. Foundation is kept natural. Eyes are made up to appear larger with added lashes and eyeliner. Brows are full and well-defined. Lips? Red, of course, to look plumper. Hair is styled with pin curls to create volume, brushed out for a soft silhouette or further pinned up in “Victory rolls” or similar styles.
Sets usually include a simple or solid background, with highly-stylized poses, which I will coach you through. There is so much room for personalization with these shoots! Props help carry the theme. What are your favorite activities? Let’s highlight them in your session. Music lover? I’ve got a vintage-look record player and albums to cast around. Always online? I’ve got a vintage-look telephone for that old-school method of staying in touch. Dream it, and let’s do it!
