I believe that printed, tangible images – in simple black frames on the wall or the mantle, or thick scrapbook albums on the bookshelf – are priceless treasures.
Prints – done properly and professionally – will last much longer than any digital file. The jpg file will deteriorate every time it’s opened and closed… and then there’s the consideration of where and how it’s saved… and whether you’ll be able to access it later (remember the floppy disk?).
Prints are also easier to share in person. Some of our favorite family gatherings have been passing around pictures from person to person, sharing the memories – something that just cannot be done on your smartphone.
Store duplicates of your favorite images in a safe deposit box, but share the others where they can be enjoyed! See this blog post for more of my beliefs on the power of prints.
