When selecting your session day outfits, think about your style sense and what you envision for the shoot. And don't forget: from head to toe, details matter! Thoughtfully select the perfect shoes, accessories, jewelry, and layering details when putting together your outfits.
Try to select colors you know look good on you (when you wear them, people compliment you) or, if you just have no idea, match your eyes. Avoid logos or prints, as they tend to be distracting. Bring several (3-5) outfits. Got a beautiful dress hanging in the closet with nowhere to go? Now would be a good chance to celebrate with it! I also have a small “shooting wardrobe” of formals, semi-formals, lingerie, and accessories to supplement your choices, too.
Choose what you love and what fits your body. If your clothes aren’t comfortable, it will show, no matter how much posing direction I give you.
Being photographed with someone? Coordinate; don't match. You don't all need to be wearing the exact same thing. What works better is everyone coordinating in a beautiful color palette. Choose colors that, when all worn in one outfit, would look good together. Also choose similar styles. Make sure everyone is on the same page about how formal or casual their outfits are. Someone in jeans or shorts will look out of place if everyone else is in suits and skirts.
Also, keep in mind the decor of your home. If you plan to have a photograph enlarged for your living room wall, you'll want the subject matter to look like it belongs there. Choose locations and colors appropriately, e.g., bold colors in an urban setting work better with modern decor, while neutral colors set in nature will work better with a vintage or rustic home.
I’m happy to help you with your styling needs! We’ll talk about it at our pre-session consultation, but I’m also available to meet you at home and go through your wardrobe options with you – all part of the service I offer. I’ll even tag along on your shopping trip to offer my advice, should you decide you’d like to invest in something new!
